Party is supreme: Aninri voted for APC not Hon. Magnus Edeh in the State House of Assembly primary
The just concluded APC State House of Assembly primary election in Aninri has once again proven a strong political reality — party structure, leadership influence, and grassroots loyalty remain more powerful than individual popularity.
According to Comrade Onyeabor Chisom, Editor of The Voice of the Masses News Website, the outcome of the primary should not be interpreted as a personal endorsement of Hon. Magnus Edeh’s performance, but rather as the victory of the APC political structure in Aninri.
Many party faithful and observers have continued to question the lawmaker’s first tenure, arguing that the people expected more visible representation, stronger legislative impact, and practical constituency projects capable of improving the lives of ordinary citizens.
Critics within the constituency maintain that throughout his first tenure, there has been little public awareness of impactful bills, empowerment programmes, scholarship or bursary initiatives, and major constituency interventions that directly touch the grassroots. For many constituents, representation is beyond occupying a seat; it is about visible service, accessibility, and measurable development.
Political analysts also believe that the strong influence of the APC leadership at the state level played a major role in the primary outcome. The election demonstrated party discipline and loyalty among party members who chose to align with the directives and interests of the party structure.
In every democracy, elections are expected to reflect not only political strength but also performance and accountability. The people of Aninri are becoming more politically conscious and increasingly demanding dividends of democracy from those elected to represent them.
While Hon. Magnus Edeh may have secured victory in the primary, many believe the real task ahead is rebuilding public confidence through effective representation, legislative visibility, and people-oriented programmes that will positively impact the lives of constituents.
Ultimately, the APC primary in Aninri sends a broader message: political victories can be secured through party supremacy, but sustaining public support depends largely on performance, delivery, and connection with the people.
